The 24th annual Old Gas Engine Show, an event held at the West
Virginia Oil & Gas Festival in Sistersville, along the Ohio
River, has been termed a big success. We had one of the best shows
ever held in our 24-year history. The weather brought out thousands
of festival visitors to see the many different types of engines
that were on display.

The engine show had 150 engine owners register, who brought with
them 273 engines of all sizes, 110 models, seven tractors and 39
miscellaneous displays. Twelve states were represented. Of the 150
exhibitors, 122 joined the West Virginia Oil and Gas Engine Club
which was formed one year earlier.
The Wiser Oil Company of Texas, and Quaker State Corporation of
Oil City, Pennsylvania, were the sponsors for this year's show.
Their sponsorship made it possible for free admission for engine
owners and their families, free camping with their engines, can of
oil and dash plaque for each registered exhibitor. Plans are for
the same setup at the 25th annual show.
Events during the four day festival were daily entertainment, a
dozen food booths, scale model derrick-building contest, outhouse
trot races, antique auto show, grand oil and gas trophy parade,
lawn garden tractor pull, horseshoe pitching contest, oil and gas
exhibits, craft sales, craft demonstrations, game booths, art
exhibit, photo exhibit, craft exhibit, silent auction, rod and
custom auto show, country store, gas hog mud bog, canoe races on
the Ohio River, Gib Morgan children's games, marble shooting
championships, amateur talent contest, baseball card show, Senior
Citizens Day entertainment-contest-program, Senior Citizen Queen
pageant, educational exhibits, bingo, Junior and Senior Bowl
football games, bicycle decorating contest, West Virginia Oil and
Gas Man of the Year luncheon, golf tournament, Band-A-Rama,
muzzle-loader shoot, old time fiddle contest, oil giveaway, and
much, much more.
We are making plans for our 25th annual engine show and festival
September 16-19, and it looks like it will be even better than last
year's. We invite all types of engines to Sistersville to help
us honor the oil and gas industry. Without this great industry
there wouldn't be any engines, steam or gas or even water. So
come to our show and have some fun with your friends.
